FCRA stands for Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 2010**. It is a legal requirement for NGOs, trusts, societies, and Section 8 companies in India to receive foreign donations or grants.

FCRA Registration Process:

Step 1: Open FCRA Account in SBI NDMB (New Delhi)

  • This is mandatory for all foreign contributions.

Step 2: Apply for FCRA Online via FC-3A (or FC-3B for prior permission)

  • Through FCRA Online Portal

Step 3: Upload All Required Documents

  • MOA, audited reports, activity reports, etc.

Step 4: Application Reviewed by MHA (Ministry of Home Affairs)

  • May include field inquiry and verification

Approval / Rejection Issued

  • Registration is granted if all conditions are met


Timeframe:

  • Typically 3 to 6 months from the date of application


Important Post-FCRA Compliance:

  1. File Annual Return (Form FC-4)

  2. Submit quarterly receipts on FCRA portal

  3. Maintain separate books for foreign contribution

  4. Use funds only for stated purposes

  5. Renew FCRA every 5 years (or earlier if required)
